This year marks the 30th Annual Great American Smokeout. The date for this year's quit day is the 16th of November. Many communities across the country use this day to encourage people to quit smoking and to bring awareness about the harmful effects that occur with the use of tobacco. The idea of quitting for one day shows the user that if they can quit for one day, then they can quit for a lifetime. There are also events during this time to present facts about obacco to the public. Some of the facts are: "an estimated 46 million US adults smoke… Smoking is responsible for one in three cancer deaths, and one in five deaths from all causes". Hopefully, most D.F.Y.I.T. chapters will be able to do an activity for this anti-tobacco holiday. If you have any ideas about something that we could do, make sure to let your coordinator know.
